As the crisis in Syria enters its 8th year, UNHCR with its partners continue to respond to the immediate and urgent needs of internally displaced vulnerable Syrians and strengthening their resilience and reducing the communities’ vulnerabilities. UNHCR introduces an insight into what Community Based Protection really means and the lives that are impacted by these services on a daily basis. Women, men, boys, girls, and older persons are supported through a diverse range of activities, including educational support, livelihoods support, legal support, awareness sessions, small-business grants, vocational training, recreational activities and above all community-led initiatives. In 2017, 2.6 million people were reached by protection activities and in 2018 so far 1.5 million people have been reached through UNHCR Syria supported community centres, satellite centres, mobile units, and outreach volunteers.
