5 things you should know about refugee resettlement: 1. Resettlement is the transfer of vulnerable refugees from an asylum country to another country that has agreed to give them a new home. 2. 1.4 million refugees are in urgent need of resettlement. 3. Political sentiment and public attitudes towards refugees have hardened in recent years, halving the spots available for resettlement. At today’s rate, it would take 18 years to resettle all refugees in need. 4. Only 5 countries received two-thirds of refugees resettled in 2017. 5. More countries need to step forward and welcome refugees. The responsibility is on all of us.
