Evacuation flight brings 119 refugees to Italy from Libya

An evacuation flight from Tripoli to Rome, Italy, offered a vital lifeline to 119 vulnerable asylum-seekers, second evacuation flight from Libya this year, 2024. Among the evacuated individuals are women at risk of exploitation, survivors of violence, and accompanied child and those with severe medical conditions. The majority of those who were evacuated are refugees from Eritrea, Ethiopia, Egypt, Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan. An agreement was signed with Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), ARCI, Community of Sant'Egidio, Federation of Evangelical Churches, and INMP, and will allow to 1,500 refugees and people in need of international protection to be evacuated from Libya to Italy over three years.
