This week, ahead of International Women’s Day, the first group of 38 women have successfully graduated from a two-year midwifery training programme in Bamyan province and Daikundi provinces run by UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency with partner, WSTA supported by the EU International Partnerships. The project aims to tackle Afghanistan’s high maternal and infant mortality rates, training young women to work in remote rural villages in the country’s Central Highlands.
