Farida Beekeeping English
UNHCR Afghanistan
Description
In rural areas of Afghanistan, 200 men and women are being trained as beekeepers in a UNHCR livelihood programme. The project not only supports people to start their own businesses, it also contributes to the conservation of local biodiversity and the sustainable use of natural resources. As well as receiving theoretical practical training, clothing and start up kits, including five hives - each hive containing around 60-70,000 honeybees - the trainees will be helped to establish market linkages for their produce. The programme is supported by the Afghanistan Humanitarian Trust Fund (AHTF), managed by the Islamic Development Bank Group - isdb.org (IsDB) with funding from the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD).
