Man on suspended sentence for breach of peace and contempt of court is sent to prison for again breaching the peace and showing contempt of court. Nothing to see here.

@ZeenatSab @JFCrisp If ilthe evidence is some countries in the global north putting up barriers and closing borders, I’d suggest it’s less to do with the language used around the situation than the situation and context itself.

@ZeenatSab @JFCrisp I do see the point that you’re making but again, what’s the alternative that encompasses all that while avoiding any potentially problematic implications. Also not convinced it is problematic using ‘global’. What’s the evidence for that?

@ZeenatSab @JFCrisp Is it inaccurate though? Many countries across the world hosting more refugees than ever before, humanitarian aid spending at record levels, huge need for global resettlement places. ‘Global refugee crisis’ doesn’t just refer to figures alone.

@JFCrisp Might be one thing to question whether some are doing enough...But isn’t it hard to argue that countries across the globe are affected?

@JFCrisp This in isolation *might* suggest so...but broader context = there IS a need for developed countries to share greater portion of responsibility&offer more resettlement places, plus humanitarian aid at all time high. Are countries across globe not therefore affected?

@ZeenatSab @JFCrisp Isn’t *any* word problematic when ‘used with a particular intent and serves into a narrative of fear’? What alternative would you propose to ‘global refugee crisis’ that captures the need for global solidarity and the urgency/enormity of the situation?
