UNHCR and partners have provided more than 250,000 people with mental health and psycho-social support since the onset of the pandemic but we worry that so many more are falling through the gaps. We must prioritise and boost #MentalHealth support. #WorldMentalHealthDay https://t.co/nMPjmVfnER

Deteriorating socio-economic conditions, protracted displacement and the lack of solutions are resulting in a crisis of widespread despair among refugees and those displaced. On #WorldMentalHealthDay we appeal for more investment in mental health. https://t.co/VtzE7N2JHf

Incredibly well deserved! Congratulations to our colleagues @WFP on the #NobelPeacePrize.   With food insecurity a major challenge and a root cause of displacement and conflict, we echo applause for their efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war. https://t.co/b9Qybas7UG

Refugee protection has been severely put to the test this year. Measures enacted by states in response to the COVID-19 pandemic ranged from some of the most humane through to blanket denials of access to asylum and forced returns of refugees to danger: https://t.co/Qq9Ib7hyzN

Only 3% of refugees have access to higher education and many may not be aware of available opportunities for tertiary study. To help bridge this gap we've launched the Opportunities portal, which lists higher education programs for refugees worldwide. https://t.co/o03GOGFgU1

This year marks 20 years of the UN Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children. We urge states to give full backing to the Protocol to intensify the fight against trafficking and promote full respect of victims' rights.

A more robust commitment is needed by states to address trafficking. This includes ensuring access to asylum for people seeking safety, regularizing those that are undocumented, and creating additional legal pathways for refugees and migrants to enter host countries.

Across parts of Latin America, reports of trafficking of Venezuelan refugees and migrants, incl. children, are widespread. Partly linked to the influx, the number of trafficking victims identified in Colombia between 2015- 2019 rose by 23%. The majority were females aged 10-30.

Those unable to cross borders safely and access asylum are often driven by desperation to make irregular crossings, facilitated by gangs, armed groups and other criminals. Some women + girls are forced into sexual servitude, lured and trapped by smugglers. https://t.co/rKORjI4lxn
