Back in Bangladesh 🇧🇩 on a comprehensive visit including exchanges with the government, partners and civil society, as well as field missions to Rohingya refugee sites. Grateful, as always, for the warm hospitality, and looking forward to important discussions. https://t.co/NROeyRDz57

Glad to be invited by @JosepBorrellF to the EU development ministers’ meeting. We agreed that as we focus on the consequences of the Ukraine war we must continue to tackle all humanitarian crises and development challenges. This is not the time for global aid levels to decrease. https://t.co/EsWQCt8Je2

Met @pritipatel and @Vbiruta. Reiterated UNHCR’s concerns about the UK-Rwanda deal. Shifting asylum responsibilities is not the solution. UNHCR will continue proposing concrete alternatives that respect international refugee law. See my previous statement: https://t.co/ZMHidSQuAS

Giving asylum and granting protection to people fleeing from persecution due to sexual orientation or gender identity saves lives. UNHCR is proud to partner with organizations supporting #LGBTIQ+ people, especially those who are forcibly displaced or stateless. #IDAHOTB https://t.co/Qok2taXPbV

At a @Stadt_Wien centre, well managed by @trainofhope volunteers, I heard stories from refugees just arrived from Ukraine. Many told me that indiscriminate shelling had destroyed all they had. All said they wanted to return as soon as war ends. That is why, also, war must end. https://t.co/vP8nS5kZkK

This week, the @UN leadership met in person in Vienna — a timely opportunity, given the size, gravity and urgency of global challenges: climate, COVID, inequalities, wars; and with @antonioguterres’ “Our Common Agenda” providing vision and direction for the future. https://t.co/TS29KgaYrX

Saying that the people fleeing Ukraine are “real refugees” and those who do so from other parts of the world are not, is shameful and racist. All those who flee war, persecution and discrimination have the right to seek asylum. Full interview on @ORF 👇🏻 https://t.co/2HctTV7tWf

I was honoured to be received by President @vanderbellen of Austria. I thanked him for his country’s generous reception of refugees from Ukraine, for Austria’s growing support to UNHCR and for his commitment to the cause of those who flee war, discrimination and persecution. https://t.co/xL36YKzszB

40 years after the start of the #AIDS pandemic, #HIV continues to affect millions, especially in poor, marginalized contexts. UNHCR, with fellow @UNAIDS co-sponsors, advocates for the rights, and helps meet the needs of displaced people at risk of infection. @Winnie_Byanyima https://t.co/kcAINfSGFw

By coincidence, the number of Syrian and Ukrainian refugees is currently the same: 5.7 million, a sign of the gravity of today’s humanitarian challenges. In this context, pledges made at the #SyriaConf22 to help Syrians in need, US$4.3 billion for 2022, are especially important.
