A great project visited in Kakuma, Kenya: thanks to an @IFC_org grant, KDII Ltd employs Kenyans and refugees to produce reusable sanitary pads; this reduces cost, supporting girls’ and women’s menstrual health in a low income area. Both good and socially responsible business! https://t.co/Oagrhac9rO

Always inspiring to visit Turkana, Kenya, hosting 250,000 refugees, many from South Sudan. Kalobeyei settlement is a model of refugee self reliance and coexistence with local communities: an approach led by the authorities, with innovative partnerships between aid and business. https://t.co/5pbld5q1W7

In Somalia lives must be saved AND made resilient. The Galkayo durable solutions project approach is good: land allocation coupled with investments in shelter, services and livelihoods help displaced people start breaking the cycle of crises. Development actors must step up too! https://t.co/3FQrP1dz1R

We visited some of the 74 sites hosting thousands of people displaced by drought in Galkayo South, Somalia. The humanitarian response is improving but more must be done to save lives. We urgently need more resources and more aid workers on the ground. We will continue to step up. https://t.co/iARMUGXlH1

Wishing @SwedishPM Kristersson and his government all the best as they start their tenure leading a country which has always been one of UNHCR’s strongest partners and supporters. We look forward to continuing cooperation in addressing refugee crises worldwide.

Positive and constructive meeting with President @HassanSMohamud in Mogadishu. As a terrible drought and continuous insecurity impact millions of Somali lives, UNHCR remains engaged in the humanitarian response and in efforts to break the lethal cycle of crisis and displacement. https://t.co/CbHQdLuOlb

For 30 years the DAFI scholarship programme has transformed the lives of refugee students, thanks to @GermanyDiplo leading support and contributions by the @CzechMFA, @DanishMFA, and the private sector. Our goal: to have 15% of refugees in tertiary education by 2030! #15by30 https://t.co/wVVDoM9ZsC

“Failed by decision-makers. Pursued by aggressors, persecutors or the climate emergency, or a combination of these and other factors. And in too many cases invisible, in the margins of humanity. It is a failure which we must not accept.” On refugees, in closing #ExCom2022. https://t.co/KzZwImJFEj

Unless peace efforts are seriously pursued, civilians will continue to be killed, injured and displaced in northern Ethiopia. Meanwhile humanitarian workers must be able to do their work safely as they keep trying to reach Ethiopians and refugees in need of life saving support.
