Increasing number of ppl asking for assistance outside our UNHCR-supported centre for displaced people in Sana'a. Pre #YemenClosure 400-600 people arrived each day but now 600-800. All seeking aid b/c of further economic duress and worsening poverty brought by the crisis. https://t.co/CIZSR1s3Ic

Sounds from an average Saturday morning in Sana'a city: sonic booms breaking the sound barrier, explosions, a few motorbikes revving up on empty streets. And besides that anxious silence.

@SaudHashem @UNHCRYemen I'm afraid you misunderstand our mandate and our concerns. It is not for us to take sides or stand with or against any party in the conflict. We operate according to humanitarian principles of neutrality and impartiality. Our primary concern is the protection of civilians.

There are almost 21 million people in #Yemen who require humanitarian assistance because of the conflict but closed borders and cut-off supply lines now mean that humanitarian aid is quickly depleting, unable to be replenished. https://t.co/h4G4y001Mi https://t.co/CNhuEZE8kR

At present humanitarian and commercial supplies, and people (including aid workers) can neither get in (or get out) of the country.

Cost of food and water now also increasing, up to 3 times more expensive now. If life wasn't tragic already for conflict affected Yemenis is it now worsening day by day. Civilian life is being crippled in Yemen.

Many of our colleagues who rely on buses to get to work had to walk several kilometres this morning - unable to find public buses to transport them b/c the buses can no longer afford gas.
