“We all have a responsibility to open our doors & lend a welcoming hand to those fleeing violence.” Thank you PM @JustinTrudeau for your comments on 70th anniversary of Refugee Convention & 🇨🇦’s continued support @SeanFraserMP @HarjitSajjan @ACNURspain https://t.co/RqRwnLI3TT https://t.co/5C51xR4vmg

“Fire or ice.. how will the world end? I don’t know and I don’t want to find out. Not in our generation, and not in the next.” Powerful poem by our goodwill ambassador @EmiThePoet The #ClimateCrisis is a human crisis! #COP26 #TogetherForOurPlanet https://t.co/yw9YRhvhh3

The resumption of these life-saving evacuations could not come soon enough. No one should be left to languish in such appalling conditions.   More resettlement places from countries around the 🌎 mean more lives can be saved. https://t.co/pEt3CmBn3z @UNHCRLibya #WithRefugees

(7/7) We continue working with 🇨🇦& partners to honor 🇨🇦’s commitment to bring 40K Afghans to safety & will continue to advocate for increased resettlement of AFG refugees & others fleeing conflict around the 🌎 With more spaces for resettlement, we can help more people.

(6/7) We also advocate for at-risk Afghans to be able to reach safety, calling on neighboring countries to keep borders open, work for families to be reunited, and try to ensure that the needs of AFG refugees displaced in years and decades past are considered.

(5/7) UNHCR’s role inside AFG is focused on meeting humanitarian needs. @UNHCRAfg is on the ground in 2/3 of districts, providing the most vulnerable with lifesaving aid, including winter supplies & cash assistance, as temperatures drop & hundreds of thousands remain displaced https://t.co/Eb0YEarfz1

(4/7) UNHCR works in 132 countries around the 🌎 to identify people for resettlement who are most at risk. Unfortunately, needs are much higher than spaces available & less than 1% of refugees are resettled each year. Learn more on resettlement here: https://t.co/oQhjelMPyy

(3/7) We’re concerned that bilateral evacuation programmes from AFG are being confused with UNHCR’s traditional refugee resettlement. UNHCR doesn’t transfer citizens from their own countries to other states and hasn’t been involved with evacuations from #Afghanistan

(2/7) UNHCR is grateful for additional resettlement spaces made available globally for Afghan refugees. We’ve resettled 46K AFG refugees since 2003 from asylum countries to several resettlement countries based on individual needs and circumstances, and will continue to do so.

(1/7) With the situation in #Afghanistan top of mind for many Canadians, we’re seeing a lot of questions and concerns. I’m sharing this thread with key info on UNHCR’s work both inside and outside AFG. @UNHCRCanada @Refugees @UNHCRAfg https://t.co/Sdo3ROXKgT
