While the Humanitarian Buffer ensures that countries have enough vaccines to immunize vulnerable populations in humanitarian settings, given the high number of Afghans already living in Iran & the new arrivals, more vaccines will be needed to protect this community.

Iran has already begun vaccinating refugees against Covid at the same time as Iranians as part of the national vaccination plan. This new shipment will ensure that more refugees will be protected. According to the government, over 500,000 refugees have received been vaccined.
